Hi! I’m Heather, the blessed wife of Benson and Momma to a beautiful little girl and amazing little boy through adoption. I’m a Jesus girl and my greatest passion is striving to honor Him in all that I do. I know that everything I have, including these beautiful children, is from Him.
Our Adoption Journey
The first time the idea of adoption grabbed my attention was over ten years ago at a Steven Cutis Chapman concert. They were highlighting an amazing organization called Show Hope and I picked up a packet of information. And… that is where it all began! The seed was planted and although it was slow-growing, it did in fact begin to grow.
But…adoption felt so hard. We just didn’t know if we had what it took to make it happen. And, the truth is we didn’t! Not even almost. But, God did! We started doing a little research, but it wasn’t until we went to an informational meeting some years later, we started to really dig in. We learned more about different types of adoption, what to expect, and resources available to prospective adoptive families.
Up until this point, my husband and I had chosen not to have children. Because, honestly, I didn’t want to. I used to think my lack of desire for children was just due to growing up in a dysfunctional home. But, now I know God was preparing our hearts to grow our family through adoption. He had us wait so we could experience His best for us.
So, after lots of research, paperwork, and prayer we started the process!
(Here’s the picture we used on the front of our profile book; the book shown to birth parents.)
And after plenty of waiting, in August of 2016, we got a call from the agency. A birth mom saw our profile book and wanted to meet us! So many emotions! We met her two days later and she said we were the ones she wanted to adopt her baby! And, that same day she asked us to come to meet our daughter who was two weeks old! At three weeks old Abigail Grace, came home!
(The first time we ever held Abigail!)
We were beyond blessed. We started building our life as a family of three…which was exactly as we intended to stay…until…one year later. We received an email from Abigail’s birth mom letting us know she was pregnant with Abigail’s full biological sibling and wanted to know if we would adopt this baby due in January 2018.
We were in shock! We had honestly planned to remain a family of three. But, as it often goes, God had other plans…better plans. And, on January 30, 2018 we met our son, Bennett Casey and brought him home soon after.
About ‘For The Love of Adoption’
Since starting the process of adoption (the first time), I have received lots of questions from people curious about the process. They want to know what all is involved and many, just like us in the beginning, feel it is just too daunting or too expensive of a process.
Well, I’m here to tell you that if God has put adoption on your heart it’s more than a possibility. It’s likely! If you will just step out in faith, God will honor that in ways you cannot even imagine! God has a heart for adoption, and he has a heart for you and what is best for you!
My two precious children are nothing short of an absolute blessing and inspiration. I’m excited to encourage other families and help them find resources as they research and hopefully embark on the exciting adventure of adoption. So, whether you’re looking into adoption yourself, helping a friend do some research, or supporting an adopted person in your life, I’m glad you’re here!
